WATERFORD, US: Momentive Performance Materials Inc (Momentive) presents a new non-isocyanate cured silylated polyurethane Y-19243 resin that can help alleviate the need for primers.
This polyurethane resin is targeted to enable the production of single component (1K) direct-to-metal paints. This new binder resin can help formulations achieve UV durability, flexibility and corrosion resistance that is equivalent to or better than tested 2K isocyanate-containing formulations, while alleviating the need for a primer to attain adhesion.
Applicators of industrial maintenance paints can benefit from the simplicity of a 1K system, while the asset owner can enjoy long lasting durability.1K formulation paints avoid the critical mixing of two components (2K) at the point of use, thus eliminating the potential for an incorrect ratio of reactants.
Formulations containing Y-19243 resin are capable of curing to hard films with very high flexibility and impact resistance. Such coatings have been shown to maintain high gloss values while displaying very low yellowing when exposed to extensive QUV-B weathering. They have also demonstrated better corrosion resistance than a commercially-available 2K polyurethane coating when tested in Momentive’s laboratory.
In addition to the new non-isocyanate silylated polyurethane resin, Momentive has a full line of prepolymer products and industry staples such as CoatOSil, Silblock and Silquest products to help meet the demanding needs of today’s coating, adhesive and sealant industry.
