Quality evolution – Striving for business excellence




Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Institute of Quality organised its 25th National Quality Summit in Bengaluru, India with the theme “Quality Evolution - Journey through Innovation.” The two-day event had participants from various industries exchanging ideas on ways to take the quality quotient to the next level.
R Mukundan, chairman, CII Institute of Quality, and managing director, Tata Chemicals Limited, in his inaugural speech emphasised on the need for perfection to achieve excellence. “Players in the public sector, healthcare, education and other services should embrace quality practices to be able to excel in their fields,” he said.
“Taking the quality revolution to the services sector is a priority, as the economy is increasingly driven by the services sector, which is also the major employment provider,” said union minister for commerce and industry, Suresh Prabhu, in his video-recorded speech.
Taking on skill development as an integral part of the entire quality enhancement process, Priyank Kharge, minister for information technology and biotechnology & tourism, Government of Karnataka, announced that the government will fund for the training of 1.1 lakh students and professionals who will be certified by the industry. “Skill development plays a key role in promoting quality and innovation. Hence, the State Government is investing heavily in skill development in emerging technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, cyber security, animation, and blockchain that are going to become mainstream in the next ten years,” he said.
