BAM constructs first CO2 negative road

THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS: The province of Zuid-Holland, Netherlands is the leader in pilot projects to make the management and maintenance of its roads CO2 neutral. In cooperation with the European construction company BAM Infra, the road N211 between The Hague and the Westland is now even CO2 -negative. This means that more CO2 will be absorbed during the major maintenance than it is released.
Innovative companies and entrepreneurs along the way each contributes to the 21 sustainable measures that make the road sustainable. Also, the municipality of Westland, TU Delft and local schools are closely involved in the renewed road.
Durable makeover
The fully renovated N211 is groundbreaking in all respects. Thus, energy is extracted from the road surface that is stored locally in a heat-cold storage system. Nearby companies are also connected to the system so that heat can be exchanged.
