Chemical Today: The good ol days!

Remember the good ol days! - When soap was just a red colour bar and a detergent was the rough, solid, white coloured granule. Looking at the evolution, soap and detergents have come a long way. Today, soap bars are available in different flavours (and colours) such as milk, almond, blackcurrent, orange etc. The flavoured and textured solid bars are also giving way to soaps in the form of liquid and foam in a bottle. Even the detergents have moved away from their white identity to become blue, green, pink in colour - with lemon extracts, fresh aqua smells to top it all. They are also available in a liquid and tablet form, suitable for washing machines and dryers.
With the increasing awareness about personal hygiene, the soaps and detergents have become a multimillion-dollar industry. To understand how the market will shape up, read our ‘Sector View,’ as we focus on the growing soaps and detergents industry.
Again, coming back to the good ol days! - There was never a time when your mother would let you step out of your house, before stuffing you with home cooked food. And in case you are off to work or travelling, there was always a food box chugging along with your luggage. Nowadays, you just move from your home, knowing that lots of options are available on the way.
With changing consumer lifestyles and growth of the packaging industry, the food industry too has grown leaps and bounds. Playing an important role in preserving food and adding flavour to it, the food additives sector too is seeing immense potential. See how the food additives industry is moving along, in our ‘Feature’ story.

Once again, returning to the good ol days! – Earlier paint sellers would start construction of a shop and make desired changes throughout the construction. To revolutionise this experience and give the feel of a real-world environment, AkzoNobel has decided to use the Virtual Reality technology. With VR technology, trade and retail customers can see new concepts and Point of Sale designs without the cost or disruption of physically producing them. Take a look at the ‘Virtual Reality’ article, as part of our Surface & Coating event coverage.
As an industry, first, our online TV - WOC TV is to debut in India as an exclusive Media Video partner for the Surface & Coating Expo 2016, organised by CII in Chennai (26 to 28 August). WOC TV interviews (5-minute videos) will focus on the trends, products and latest technology for the industrial coatings sector as reflected in the expo. Make a note of the link (http://www.worldofchemicals.com/media/woctv.html) to see the interviews of the exhibitors and visitors, attending the expo.
