The three-day expo aims at empowering, enriching and engaging Indian industries with global technological advancement in surface and coatings business.
Corrosion is eating away around Rs 3.6 lakh crore every year in India. Rising pollution levels are resulting in faster deterioration of metals. However, the Indian industry is yet to wake up to this reality. Globally, surface preparation, treatment and coatings are becoming an integral part of any manufacturing industry and high-quality surface and coatings are giving new dimensions to industry growth.
Taking cognizance of this issue at hand, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising the 2nd edition of Surface & Coating Expo (SCE) in Chennai from August 26-18, 2016. The three-day event will focus on surface engineering, preparation, finishing, coatings and corrosion protection technologies.
SCE 2016 will have a strong focus on interactions between researchers, user industry, manufacturers from branches of surface finishing and coating applications that are contributing to the industrial growth.
Role revival
Along with high-quality finish and longer machine life, the need for any industry today is to bring down the maintenance of machines so as to save on cost and time in
the production process. Thus, surface and coatings industry has begun playing an important role. Technological advances in the surface and coatings industry are trying to incorporate additional value to its offering to reduce the need for recurring maintenance.
With the growing diversity in the industry, the application of surface preparation and coating is no longer limited to metals but is equally important for other materials like plastics, composites, concrete, wood and other materials to uplift the aesthetics with an excellent finish. While a high degree of knowledge and expertise on corrosion related issues is available in a country, it is confined to certain pockets and areas. The industry is partially unaware and partially unmindful of the magnitude of losses caused due to corrosion on the plant, machinery and equipment employed.
The event aims to bring in world class technology and process on the same platform along with end users industries, manufacturers and technology leaders for a confluence and exchange of knowledge and know-how.
Knowledge sharing
Effects of corrosion are much greater in terms of environmental damage, wastage of resources and loss of production and injury of personnel. Corrosion prevention and control is highly complex as corrosion takes many different forms and is affected by numerous factors.
Acknowledging this need for uplifting the technological knowledge of the industry, CII- AVANTHA Centre for Competitiveness formed the Committee on Corrosion Management, which is a network of renowned individuals with distinguished work in the area of corrosion. Apart from live technology demonstrations, product launches and conferences, CII-Corrosion Management Committee (CMC) will organize a two days’ certification training course on corrosion management during the expo for industry professionals to upgrade the knowledge base of the industry.
This certification training programme will aim to provide direction and guidance to participants on minimising the losses due to corrosion in various sectors of industry. The programme will also impart technical knowledge about corrosion prevention techniques and discuss the technologies that are effectively being implemented globally.
The event will additionally be loaded with a sectoral conference on the sidelines to discuss the latest technologies trends & developments in the surface engineering industry.
Industry confluence
The biennial expo is expected to gather over 200 exhibitors, 5000 business visitors and more than 750 delegates from across the globe this year. The expo will have a wide range of exhibitors and visitors from various streams. Exhibitors will be from highly focused avenues such as mechanical finishing, chemical finishing technology, chemicals and raw materials, plant and machinery, paints & powder coating applications, testing equipment, protective coatings, industrial coating, thermal coatings, etc.
The visitors at the event will also be from a diverse range of industries such as aerospace, agriculture, automobile, balance of plant suppliers, boiler & turbines manufacturers, cement, chemical & pharma industry, construction, consultants, cooling towers, defence, desalination plants manufacturers, electronics, energy, engineering, fire, food processing, iron & steel, local government, manufacturing, OEM contractors, oil & gas, plastics, ports, power plants, railways, space, sugar and waste water, etc.
Platform for stronger growth
This second edition of SCE is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Make in India’ and indigenization to create new opportunities for MSME’s. SCE 2016 will attract international players from across the world to enter into joint ventures with Indian partners for investing in the manufacturing base.
