DARMSTADT, GERMANY: Merck has entered into a cooperation agreement with Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd, that permits each company to utilise other company’s organic light-emitting diode (OLED) material-related licenses in specific or certain areas.
In the fast-growing OLED market, both leading OLED material firms have sustained to supply a variety of high-performance OLED materials to customers. Each corporation has a long history of creating OLED materials and owns a variety of patents related to OLED materials.
Under this cooperative bond, each corporation will be allowed to improve, manufacture and sell OLED materials in certain areas of the other company’s material-related patents under specified conditions. This will support to accelerate the generation of new high-performance materials (higher efficiency, longer lifetime, etc.), by permitting both parties to exploit undeveloped areas of OLED materials with different knowledge and experience.
The organizations hope to proceed with talks to extend the joint effort to incorporate other areas in the future.
The OLED market is predictable to grow further in the field of display and lighting technology. Through this agreement, both important corporations will have greater freedom/ opportunity to develop high-performance materials and strive for further expansion of the OLED market.
