KOCAELI, TURKEY: Henkel in Turkey breaks ground for its largest multi-technology manufacturing facility in Africa/Middle East. The state-of-the-art plant in Kocaeli Gebze will significantly increase the capacity in the country while contributing to the company’s sustainability goals.
The adhesive technologies site is designed to produce products from all five Technology Cluster Brands – Technomelt, Teroson, Loctite, Bonderite and Aquence – serving a broad range of market, from automotive and metal, packing and consumer goods, to electronics.
This production site is in line with Henkel’s strategy to further expand its capabilities in emerging markets. In September 2013, Henkel opened its Dragon Plant near Shanghai, China, which is also the world’s largest adhesives facility. In June 2015, the company announced the building of a state-of-the-art, multi-technology manufacturing facility near Pune, India, which is expected to open in 2017.
“We see a high growth potential in Turkey,” said Henkel Turkey President Hasan Alemdar during the groundbreaking ceremony in mid-November. “Furthermore, with our investment, we have highlighted that sustainability is an area where we take concrete actions as a part of our corporate values,” he said, commenting on the plant’s design, which meets the requirements under LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. In the first phase, renewable energy will be used to supply 30 percent of the plant’s needs. The plant design also calls for reuse of rainwater and the utilisation of solar energy.
