DUSSELDORF, GERMANY: Henkel AG on World Water Day focuses on reducing water consumption during production and use of products and on avoiding wastewater.
The company strives to create water-efficient products and technologies to enable also its consumers and customers to protect water resources worldwide. Henkel’s consumer products such as detergents, household cleaners or shampoos that pass into sewage systems after use are optimised for biodegradability so they will not impact the quality of surface waters.
Wastewater from industrial applications is pretreated using state-of-the-art technology to remove harmful substances and professionally disposed of.
Each business unit contributes to Henkel’s global goal of using 30 percent less water per tonne of product by 2020. Find some examples here:
Saving water with Dylon
Dyeing a pair of jeans with Dylon uses at least 100 times less water than is needed to produce a new pair. That means annual savings of a total of 80 billion litres of water or the equivalent of the amount of drinking water consumed per person each year by up to 3.9 million people in typical cotton-growing regions.
“Be smarter. Save water”
“Be smarter” is an initiative by Henkel beauty care with its brands Schauma, Fa and Theramed to increase awareness on the importance of water and to encourage the water-saving behaviour. A single low-flow showerhead is one quick and easy way to save water. In combination with taking shorter showers, this makes a huge difference.
Saving water with aerated adhesives
Adhesive aeration technology uses a state-of-the-art glue mixer to add controlled amounts of air to a lamination adhesive. This makes the adhesive foamier, which means less product is needed in the lamination process. The lamination of five million square meters (one production line) of corrugated board with aerated adhesives in one year saves approximately 30,000 litres of water.
