Editorial of Chemical Today magazine.
Today, when you look at raw materials, there is not a single industry that can ignore the value of plastics. Automotive parts, packaging, medical transplants and almost every industry today, is exploring the possibilities that plastics - especially polymers offer. While being lighter, high-strength, flexible and durable, a polymer is also a sustainable alternative to various materials, which are traditionally made from natural resources that are already fast exhausting.
Further, amidst increasing industrialisation, need for fuel efficient, low-weight automobiles, booming construction and infrastructural activities in the emerging markets, polymers is fast becoming the choice of the industry.
And making its presence felt in the polymers arena is the growing need for biodegradable polymers. Take a look at our Speciality Polymers focus as we explore the possibilities.
Other than the plastics & polymers sector for this month, we also look into the rubber segment. The rubber segment is mostly driven by the increasing demand for tyres. A major problem arising from this demand is that we have to bear the burden of millions of discarded tyres dumped every year. Do glance at our Feature section, as we delve into the details of recycling the tyres and putting them to other use, say for instance in constructing roads.
For the new year 2017, we promised to come up with renewed and refreshed content. Keeping our word, we have introduced a new column ‘International Focus.’ With this, we aim to bring forth the opportunities in the chemical industry in various regions. Taking the ‘International Focus’ forward, for this month we explore the potential in Asia – namely India and Taiwan.
As we move into 2017, we wish all our readers a successful Year ahead. At Chemical Today the celebration continues as we make in-roads into newer territories. Chemical Today has now tied up with Ringier Trade Media Ltd, as an Overseas Partner for Asia and South East Asia markets. Ringier is a leading B2B industrial information provider since 18 years, having their head office in Hong Kong. With this representation, we have expanded our circulation in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore. As they say, Sky is the Limit, watch this space, as we unfold new chapters in our journey, in times to come.
