Agilent Technologies’ is widely recognized for its extensive range of instruments standards and most importantly the GPC/SEC columns. All of them are the best choice for studying biodegradable polymers. The columns produced by Agilent are used for organic and aqueous eluents, solvent mixtures and high polarity organic eluents. The columns are stable and suited for all biodegradable materials. The best part of Agilent’s columns is that there are a wide-range of particle and pore size options available. This makes it easy for any company to choose a particular column based on molecular weight of the material which needs to be studied. The best quality output is available through the GPC/SEC study.

Agilent GPC/SEC Columns offers:

Accuracy - repeatable, consistent molecular weight distributions
High performance - rapid system stability considerably increases sample throughput
Versatility - perform both GPC/SEC and LC on the same system
Simplified data analysis - control the instrument, collect the data, analyze the polymer in three easy steps
Add sophisticated detectors - get more information about polymer size and configuration by adding light scattering and viscometry detection at any time
Reduce solvent costs - automated recycling when the polymer peak is not eluting
Unattended operation - let the 1260 Infinity II Vialsampler fully automate your workflow
Even higher precision - system stability makes peak integration easier and extremely reproducible

Big Industries Can Budget Funds For Waste Disposal

What are the concerns & issues regarding the waste generated by the large, medium- and small-scale industries in India?

Waste is an issue generic to all industries big and small. The difference lies in only one fact that big industries can budget funds for waste disposal whereas the MSMEs who work on smaller working capital bear difficulty in sparing funds for waste management.

Waste management if managed collectively becomes cost effective for the MSME but if a SME is standalone then it becomes a cumbersome task to  manage funds for waste management. In such a situation instead of placing onus on the cash strapped MSME, the Municipal Corporations need to come up with innovative solutions to handle waste generated at a cost affordable to a MSME company.

Utilisation Of Spentwash In Crop Production

What are the concernes regarding waste generated by the Brewers & Distilleries in India ? Give us an idea regarding the same for Karnataka Brewers & Distillers.

In Karnataka there are 33 molasses based Distilleries and one grain based Distillery are producing about 40 crore litres of Spirit per annum and generating about 4000 million ltrs.of effluent.  This has high plant nutrient value, but if used indiscriminately could cause ground water and enviromental pollution.

What are the technologies used to treat the distillery spent wash and make it a suitable bio-compost ?

The residual sugar present in molasses is fermented using suitable micro organisms which is used for generating alcohol.  After distillation what remains behind is spent wash which has still lot of energy in the form of organic matter.  Therefore, the effluent is further used to generate methane gas in the process called bio-methanation.  Methane is used as source of energy, either for producing electricity or heating the boilers.  After this process of biomethanation, what remains is treated spentwash, which is further used as a rich source of plant nutrients either by directly applying to the crops in the field or after converting it to bio-compost.  For this purpose, another by-product of the sugar industry viz; press mud is used.

Waste Management Expo 2020

We have been inspired by the “Clean India” mission, an initiative taken by the Indian government. The purpose of the mission is to incorporate effective waste management systems across the nation. Waste Management Expo (WME) will contribute to this mission by bringing together technology providers, experts, manufacturers, end-users, government bodies, waste recyclers, local authorities, stakeholders, retailers and dealers at one place.
WME intends to provide people with the necessary knowledge and tools required for processing domestic waste and industry waste. WME plans to create a decentralized system for segregating, recycling and transforming waste.

Renewable energy has big potential for electricity generation

Ramesh Shivanna, former Chairman, Energy and Renewable Energy (E&RE) Committee, Federation of Karnataka chambers of commerce and Industries (FKCCI) and Founding President of Karnataka Renewable Energy System Manufacturer Association (KRESMA) speaks about the importance of renewable energy in India with Worldofchemicals.com & Waste Management Expo 2020.

What is the Scope of Green Energy/ Renewable Energy in the various sector? Shed some light on the concerns and challenges regarding this in India.

India is a fast growing country and second highest population in the world. The power generation Installed capacity in India is 364 GW, out of this Fossil generation is 79.8 percent and Renewable energy is only 17.3 percent.

As per the Paris agreement, India has committed for 40 percent of the Energy source to be Renewable energy by 2030. We have scope of about 23 percent to build the capacity in the country.

The different Renewable energy sources are Wind, Solar, Small hydro, Biomass, waste to energy, the present wind installed capacity is 45 percent, Solar is 36 percent, Biomass is 12 per cent, Small hydro power is 5.7 percent, and waste to energy is only 0.2 percent

All the renewable energy resources are natural resources and have big potential for electricity generation. Perhaps they have different challenges.

Comparisons of costs per kilowatt-hour of electricity produced show that newly built solar and wind plants are considerably becoming cheaper. In the coming years solar and wind energy will compete more favourably with conventional energy generation.

Cement industries play major role in co-processing hazardous wastes

What are the concerns & issues regarding the waste generated in the industries (your focus industry) in India?

Segregation of waste from source level is the key matter of concern in Industries for recycling. However segregated storage followed by disposal may not be the main part of the industry’s priorities. Their commitment towards the environment will definitely motivate industry to do so.!

What are the technologies used to treat the industrial waste and make it a sustainable or usable alternate thereafter? Also, elaborate regarding the national scenario of solid waste management and methods managing the hazardous constituents?

Waste disposal hierarchy pyramid shall be followed in the disposal of waste. The landfill may be last in the pyramid, despite co-processing of waste is kick-starting across the country. Mostly cement industries play a major role in co-processing these hazardous wastes.

However, policy-driven enforcement similar to hazardous waste shall be applied to other solid waste such as e-waste, plastic waste, domestic solid waste, especially on construction and demolition waste. Stricter enforcement and abiding Extended Producer Responsibility may better the scenario in the country.
