Covestro’s new polyurethane raw material for medical applications

LEVERKUSEN, GERMANY: Covestro expands its Baymedix brand, by introducing a new polyurethane raw materials for use in medical applications, focusing on advanced wound care.
These include raw materials for wound dressings that assist in the healing process and also offer numerous design options. These raw materials are used, for example, in absorbent foams manufactured from Baymedix FP, adhesives with skin contact made of Baymedix A and films based on the waterborne products Baymedix FD and CD.
A new focus of Covestro’s material developments is applications in medical textile coatings, for example in surgical clothing, mattress pads for hospitals, coatings for medical furniture and medical bandages.
These raw materials are for sustainable waterborne textile coatings that have good tactile properties and improved resistance to disinfectants. They are also suitable for latex-free elastic self-adhesive bandages and secondary fixing.
In addition, the company is also introducing material solutions with thermoplastic polyurethane films and the high-performance plastic polycarbonate (PC) that fulfill the demands of both medical technology manufacturers and patients.
